Maria specializes in civil litigation and has a broad trial and appellate litigation practice, with a focus on corporate and commercial litigation, tort and contract law claims. She is also highly experienced in corporate insolvency related issues and in procedures for the recognition, registration and enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards. She has represented a wide range of domestic and multinational clients in judicial cases and has handled all kinds of dispute resolution matters.  Maria is involved in the handling of complex and highly contested cases involving market-leading international companies and organisations. She advises and assists clients throughout the dispute resolution process, including pre-litigation strategy and court procedures including asset tracing, pre-trial discovery, debt recovery strategies, Mareva injunctions, ex-parte applications for injunctive relief and execution of judgments

Relevant Experience

  • Advises and represents numerous multinational organisations on large, complex shareholder disputes
  • Advises on and undertakes court bankruptcy proceedings of domestic legal entities
  • Acts for applicants and respondents in interlocutory applications for injunctive relief including Mareva injunctions, pre-trial discovery and asset tracing
  • Advises on and handles recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments and awards, with or without interlocutory injunctive relief
  • Represents international household-name litigants in high profile litigation cases
  • Participated alongside the Office of the Attorney General in the harmonization programme in preparation for Cyprus’s entry into the European Union
  • Participated in a project of the European Commission involving a legal analysis of the transposition of Environmental Directives in the European Union
  • Represented clients in civil law court actions against domestic companies for not observing their assurance to be listed in the Stock Exchange

  • Bar Vocational Course (BPP University) (Member of Lincoln’s Inn) 1999
  • Admitted to the Cyprus Bar in 2000
  • Speaks Greek and English
